Where a Guitar Can Lead: Introducing the FG4K Guitar
We reached a milestone & we want the whole world to know
We’ve given away thousands of guitars.
But we’ve never made one.
For the first time, Free Guitars 4 Kids has created a guitar of our own—made specifically for the kids and programs we have the privilege of serving.
Seeing that first shipment boxed up and headed out the door was a milestone for FG4K. But as proud as we are of the guitar itself, the part we’re most excited about is what happens after the box gets opened.
Because we’ve seen where a guitar can lead.
It might start with learning how to hold it. Tuning a string. Getting a first chord to ring out clearly.
Then maybe it becomes a favorite song. A creative outlet. A relationship with a teacher or mentor. A place to belong. A song they write themselves. Maybe it becomes something positive that stays with them for years to come.
You can’t really know at the beginning.
And we love that.
A guitar made for FG4K Kids
When we had the opportunity to create an FG4K Guitar, we started with the young people who would eventually receive it.
These guitars will make their way to kids through the schools, nonprofits, after-school programs and other trusted organizations FG4K works alongside.
Those partners are essential to this story. They provide the teachers, mentors, relationships and communities that help a guitar become much more than an instrument handed over on one exciting day.
Our role is simple: help get the guitar there—and keep looking for ways to open doors around it.
This guitar gives us a new way to do exactly that.

That little square is there specifically for the kid who receives the guitar.
With a quick scan, recipients can register their instrument and connect directly with FG4K. From there, we can share opportunities throughout the year: tips, challenges, creative opportunities, special guests, social shoutouts and a few things we’re keeping under wraps for now.
It also gives every recipient a direct path to FG4K Guitar School.
Resources they can use on their own time to keep learning
Guitar School is our growing collection of free lessons, videos, tips and resources young players can use to supplement the instruction and mentorship they’re already receiving through their local program.

The goal isn’t to replace the people teaching and encouraging these kids. It’s to put another resource within reach whenever they want it.
And now they are on their way out into the hands of kids all over the country, sparking possibility!
The first FG4K Guitars are beginning to arrive with our program partners, which means the part we’ve really been waiting for is about to begin.
Soon these won’t be our guitars.
They’ll be Kevin’s guitar. Maya’s guitar. Jordan’s guitar.
They’ll get scratched. Covered in fingerprints. Tuned and retuned. Played badly, then a little better, then maybe really well. They’ll find their way into bedrooms, classrooms, rehearsals and performances.
Exactly where they should be.
We don’t know whether one of these guitars will lead to a favorite song, a new friendship, a school jazz band, a songwriting obsession, or simply an hour at the end of the day that belongs entirely to the kid playing it.
We don’t need to know.
We get to help open the door.
